Hoens, Teri, Dan, Josh, Geoff and Jeremy
I have a Curly Top book here but have not finished it yet - do so much reading
for work that not always inclined to - I will take it with me on my next trip
and see if I can get it done - mine is Silver Lake.
Let's see - I just got back from South America - Mexico, Brazil and Argentina
-- did it all in one week - typical Abbott way. This week I head off to Vancouver
British Columbia which I think is my last trip for the year - hope so as it
is getting old. Still hanging in there weight wise but sure challenging with
all the travel.
Josh is in Norway this week-end - just got an email update from him last nite.
He is sure taking advantage of his time in London and seeing as much as he can.
I am not certain that he will ever want to come home. He has been to France,
Spain, Italy and Norway so far - think Ireland is in the plan now also.
Geoff was home this week-end with one of his room mates for Homecoming at the
High School - he also helped Jeremy dye his hair black/brown for the big dance.
Man, the house sure gets full when he gets home. He is already sick of dorm
life and wanting to move into a house off campus. Haven't seen any grades yet
so that will be the determining factor.
Jeremy is loving being an only child - finishing up the football season with
one more game on Weds. He has been accepted at Milwaukee School of Engineering
(with an academic scholarship that covers 1/3) - he is not quite sure what he
wants to do yet. He is retaking the ACT next week-end to try and improve his
score - looking at more schools at the end of the month.
Dan is adjusting to life as a diabetic - figuring out what he can and cannot
eat is pretty challenging - goes back for more blood work soon. His cast came
off and now has a boot on his foot - he can remove it at nite and can begin
exercising a little so think we are making progress. This is his favorite time
of the year so it is killing him to be immobile.
Good to hear some news from Mary - hope life is returning to normal. Praying
for Jill - hope her medical situation gets balanced out - that is pretty tough
stuff for a youngster like her. Brian called me yesterday to check on Dan -
sounded real good to hear from him. Jean - let us know if there is anything
we can do for Kaeleen - will take my cue from you.
gotta run Geoff back to Milwaukee - get my house back to "normal"
again.......love you all very much...... Teri and men

We had a pretty exciting Labor Day week-end at the Hoen household. Dan was not feeling well while cutting grass on Sunday so came inside to lay down. He could feel his heart rate was pretty fast so got out the heart rate monitor that he uses for bicycling. His rate ranged from 155 to 165 for over 3 hours – finally convinced him we needed to see a doctor.
We started at the walk in clinic which whisked him in immediately and within 30 minutes we were in the emergency room. They tried hydration first but soon realized he was going to need more. Ended up needing two different cardiac drugs in the ER to get his heart rate down – then was admitted for overnight observation. The cardiologist prescribed cardizem and come back to see him in 2 weeks. The echocardiogram looked okay but I think he will be on meds for the long term
They let him come home yesterday with all kinds of follow up needed, some of which we just took care of this morning. In addition to the heart issue, they suspect he has diabetes – we will have the results of the blood work on Thursday. They are pretty certain and have already lined him up for diabetes education and a dietician. He goes back on Thursday to see what diabetes medicine he will be on – his cholesterol is really up there to so suspect he will be put on a statin drug also.
Also, he has a hernia above his belly button which he had a CT on several months ago. While there this morning, they realized he had never followed up on a liver cyst they found during that CT. Because I was there with him, we now have a repeat CT scheduled for next week – I am sure he wishes he had gone by himself now.
The diabetes really explains a lot as he has been feeling pretty crappy and very sluggish – nice to have a reason – will keep you posted.
Josh is doing well in London – full of news every couple days or so – planning his first trip for last week of September. Geoff just called also and has had his first college class – it is official – he is a college kid now. Jeremy is adjusting to life as an only and seems to be liking it just fine……gotta run…..
